Breaking Down Chinatown – What Makes a Great Film?


In this special movie event, come to the Belmont Media Center at 9 Lexington St in Waverley Square and watch a free screening of the iconic “neo-noir” film, Chinatown – starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. (Or watch the film on your own)


Following the screening, take part in a lively back-and-forth discussion led by Jeff Hansell, director of the Belmont Media Center; who will visually break down the film and make the case that it’s one of the greatest films ever made.


Admission is free to all over 18 (or accompanied by a parent or guardian) Donations kindly accepted and will help support community media in Belmont.


Friday, May 3rd  - 5:30pm: Doors open and the film will roll at 6:00pm. We’ll have movie-style popcorn and some drinks.  Please feel to bring your refreshments and snacks, too. Film discussion will start around 8:15pm

Jeff Hansell loves movies: from silent cinema to foreign films, high drama to low comedy.  Jeff started making movies in high school – his career includes working at the Roger Corman film studio in LA; news videographer/editor for CNN in Atlanta, filming interviews with veterans of the American civil rights movement in Denver and consulting with community media activists in Paris.
