The Board of Directors of the Belmont Media Center warmly invites all to the 2014 Annual Membership Meeting & Dinner on Thursday, November 20th @ 6:30pm at the BMC Studios on 9 Lexington Street, in the heart of Waverley Square.

As we have done in past years, the event will feature delicious foods from local restaurants, Volunteer of the Year awards, and an election for open seats on the board of directors. But it is the guest speaker who promises to make this year’s meeting memorable.

Joseph Tovares, a Belmont resident, who also happens to be the Senior Vice President for Diversity and Innovation at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, will be speaking on the dynamic nature of innovation in public media and how inclusion can broaden the reach and diversity of the public media audience.

Mr. Tovares has a long career in public media, highlighted by a stint on PBS’s The American Experience, and as the executive producer for La Plaza, the Latino production unit at WGBH.

His multi-platform projects include: Zoot Suits Riots and Remember the Alamo, both for The American Experience. He was the executive producer of Maria Hinojosa: One-On-One and its Spanish language companion series: Conversaciones con Maria Hinojosa, as well as the Emmy award-winning Luis Tiant, A Baseball Story.

The BMC Annual Meeting & Dinner is free and open to the public, though only current BMC members may vote in the board election. If you are interested in running for the board of directors or would like more info, please contact Jeff Hansell, executive director: jeff@belmontmedia.org
