Belmont Police Log, Sept. 29 to Oct. 1: Bicycles stolen from Belmont Middle and High School and Waverley Street

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Saturday, Sept. 27
12:49 p.m.: A Waverley Street resident reported a stolen bicycle. The bike was behind the residence the night before. This morning, it appears someone stole the bicycle and replaced it with a different bicycle. The resident’s bicycle was not locked. The missing bicycle is a black mountain bike with the initials, “HW” on it, valued at approximately $3,000. The bicycle left in its place is a black and white Specialized Langster mountain bike.
4:30 p.m.: The officer on patrol checked the registration of a Toyota on Bright Road and learned it was revoked for insurance payment. The officer informed the operator the registration was revoked on July 17, 2025. The vehicle was towed and the plates seized. A citation was issued for uninsured motor vehicle.
Sunday Sept. 28
3:15 p.m.: A Waverley Street resident reported a stolen bicycle. The resident noticed her white Specialized Boston City edition bike with images of Boston monuments on it was missing from her front porch. It was not locked. It was purchased in 2010 for $800. The bicycle was found at another residence on Waverley Street that reported a stolen bicycle and this one was left in its place. It had a sticker with her first name on it. The resident said she would pick it up from the station.
Monday, Sept. 29
8:32 a.m.: A Winslow Road resident reported finding two mattresses with her garbage next to her garage. She assumed they were from her upstairs neighbor. However, the neighbor informed her they were not hers. She believed they were from her adjacent neighbors on Gilbert Road who moved out. She is attempting to contact the real estate broker. Three weeks ago, two storage cabinets at the rear of her garage had camping equipment stolen from them, including a $650 tent, $150 stovetop and other camping gear which totaled approximately $1,000. One of the storage units had its doors completely ripped off. Several crates of firewood were also taken from the back of her garage. She was advised to put the mattresses curbside and notify the Department of Public Works of the illegal dumping and they would retrieve them.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
2:30 p.m.: A Hill Road resident reported an electric bicycle was stolen from the rack located outside the main entrance to Belmont High School. The GPS on the bicycle is pinging in the Alewife area of Cambridge. The bicycle is an Amyet G60, black, with a big battery in the middle. It has a red and navy Honda symbol with the number 17 or 27 in the front. The bicycle was locked on the rack with its helmet in front of the high school in the morning. When the student left in the afternoon, the bicycle, helmet and lock were gone. The bicycle and helmet are valued at approximately $1,000.
5:04 p.m.: A Belmont Middle School student had his bicycle stolen from school today. He left it unlocked on the bicycle rack in the morning along the walking path surrounding the pond, closest to the crosswalk at Concord Avenue and Orchard Street. When he left in the afternoon, he could not find his bicycle. It is a blue 24-inch Specialized Hot Rock valued at $500.
