Belmont Police Log, June 26-30: Check fraud, hit and run, suspicious people on porch

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Friday, June 26

10:34 a.m.: A Slade Street resident reported check fraud. Last week his wife wrote a check to her doctor and left it for the mailman on the door. He believes this was the check but is unsure due to a couple of checks that have not yet cleared. The signature looks like his wife’s and was written out to Felix Deltoro. The bank refunded him the money and told him it was a mobile deposit into a real bank account at Capital One Bank.

4:57 p.m.: A hit and run reported at Acorn Park Building 5000. At approximately 4 p.m., the reporting part was driving from Lake Street to Acorn Park Drive on the road that leads to Route 2 Eastbound. As she approached the set of traffic lights, she went to turn right onto Acorn Park Drive when suddenly the car behind her attempted to pass her on the right. The vehicle struck the right side of her vehicle in the front of the front passenger side tire. There was visible damage there and on her front bumper. The vehicle did not stop and continued onto Route 2 EastBound. She was unable to get a license plate but said it was a silver SUV. She was driving her mother’s 201 Toyota Highlander.

6:45 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported her Tesla was hit while parked on the corner of Baker Street and Concord Avenue between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on June 27. When she returned to her vehicle, there was damage to the front left area. Video footage of the crash taken from her vehicle’s cameras shows a Ford Bronco and a license plate. The vehicle is seen travelling northbound and once it is out of the camera frame, you can see the camera shake. The Ford Bronco is registered to a Belmont resident. The Belmont Police went to the person’s house and spoke to their daughter. She said that because she hit a Tesla, she assumed the owner of the vehicle would have received a crash notification and met with her. She waited several minutes for the owner, but then left and planned to reach out later. Both parties were advised a report would be on file.

Wednesday, June 29

4:43 p.m.: A Bartlett Avenue resident reported suspicious activity. She had a $1,000 mattress from China delivered to her porch earlier in the day. She could not remember the brand name. Her camera footage shows two suspicious people come up on the porch and inspect the mattress box. She believes they were going to steal it but it was too large. She has since taken the mattress into her apartment. The camera footage shows an Asian male on the porch looking at the package. There is a white SUV (possibly Volvo) parked on the street with the tailgate open. The male goes back to the car and the video cuts out. The next video shows an Asian female in a gray Tesla SUV with the tailgate open. She goes on the porch and also inspects the package. She looks around the porch, then goes back into the SUV and drives Westbound on Bartlett Avenue.

Belmont Police responded to two mental health and two domestic calls June 26-30.
