Belmont Police Log, Dec. 19 to Jan. 3: Check washing victims, disturbance at CVS, vehicles broken into and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. 

Friday, Dec. 13

12 Noon: Belmont resident reported check fraud. She mailed four checks from her Eastern Bank checking account between Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 to pay bills. She mailed them in one of four mailboxes in Belmont. Bank of America contacted her on Dec. 12 to inform her one of the checks was cashed at a Bank of America branch for $9,500 and made out to Dylan Jacob Borr. She filed a claim with Eastern Bank and they cancelled her account.

2:20 p.m.: Hillside Gardens reported larceny. A black male, approximately 5-feet-11-inches with dreadlocks in the front of his head, wearing a black jacket, black pants and carrying a baseball bat walked into the store and stole some welding supplies, including a fuel cutoff saw and iron kit valued at approximately $200. The suspect dropped a debit card inside the store with the name, Samy Precius. The store manager confronted the suspect in the parking lot about the stolen merchandise. The suspect then took out a mini baseball bat and took off running across Blanchard Road to the Cambridge side and into the parking lot of apartments. The suspect was later seen running towards Alewife, wearing a mask. He was also seen running through yards off of Glenn Road and dumped a black bag by Taylor Road. The dumped items were retrieved and brought to the station for safe keeping. A criminal complaint was issued to Samy Precius for shoplifting by asportation.

8:15 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported a firearm and ammunition he found when cleaning the home. He recently purchased the property. He turned the items into the police, including a Crossfire Quest 1000 BB gun and several rounds of ammunition. All the items were stored in the Belmont Police firearms storage cabinet.

Saturday, Dec. 14

11:56 a.m.: CVS on Trapelo Road reported six bottles of Biolage shampoo/conditioner valued at approximately $245 were stolen. An employee saw a white male, stalky build, wearing a black sweatshirt with the word, “Chicago” written on it, steal the items from the store. A copy of the video surveillance capturing the incident was provided to the Belmont Police. The CVS manager was advised to contact the Belmont Police if the suspect returns.

Sunday, Dec. 15

10:52 a.m.: An Oakley Road resident reported her vehicle broken into overnight. She is unsure if the vehicle was locked. Items missing included $400 cash and a black Lululemon cross body purse valued at $40.

Monday, Dec. 16

9:56 a.m.: A Stults Road resident reported two motor vehicles broken into. The vehicle was unlocked. Approximately $10 in quarters were missing from each of the vehicles. He was advised to lock his vehicles at night.

2:05 p.m.: A Rutledge Road resident reported a package containing a ginger jar she ordered, valued at $150, was delivered to the wrong address in Earth City, Missouri. She submitted a claim to UPS that her package was not delivered to her shipping address. The claim was denied. She said she will reach out to the company she ordered the jar from to get a new one shipped to her address.

2:47 p.m.: A pedestrian flagged down a police officer to report a large truck with a Maine registration knocked over a traffic light post at the corner of Waverley and Belmont Streets. Belmont Control and Belmont Light were notified.

4:42 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported receiving an email from Santander Bank on Dec. 12 showing a debit transaction was made from his account for $17,440. He never made a transaction for that amount, but did mail a check on Dec. 4 for the amount of $1,416. The check was placed inside a United States Postal Service mailbox on the corner of Brighton Street and Eliot Road in Belmont. He obtained a copy of the check that was altered and deposited from his online account with Santander. The fraudulent check was made out to Teliane Semedo. He informed Santander of the fraudulent activity.

9:40 p.m.: A 2006 Lexus was driving on the soccer field of Grove Street playground. A Belmont Police officer talked to the driver who said he was taking photos of himself in the driver’s seat to post online for friends to see.  Charges will be pending once the field condition is assessed in daylight.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

2:39 p.m.: Two car collision with injuries between a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2014 Toyota. The Toyota failed to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left and the drover had an expired driver’s license. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The operator of the Toyota was transported to the hospital. The operator of the Toyota was issued a citation for unlicensed operation and right of way at an intersection.

3:45 p.m.: A Connecticut resident wrote a check and gave it to his sister, a Belmont resident, to mail. She put the check in her mail slot. This past weekend, he was informed by his bank someone attempted to cash the check at Rockland Trust Bank, but it was denied. They believe the envelope with the check was taken from the mail slot. They were advised to find out the location of the bank branch involved.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

9:55 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported threatening text messages from two numbers, 404-884-5301 and 404-354-5847, telling him he needed to pay $3,000 or they would hurt his family. He said he received the texts the day after he made a call to an adult escort company called, Fantasy, which he found online. He was told it would be $300 to have a girl come out at which time he told them, no thank you. He received a message this morning from someone named, Tony, telling him he needed to pay anyway. They were using mean emoji faces and some of the texts were phrased strangely. He blocked the numbers and didn’t pay any money.

10:30 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported an issue he had with a former guest of his Airbnb on Thayer Road in Belmont. The guest rented the Airbnb between Nov. 17 and Nov. 19. Shortly after her stay, the owner located a gold ring with “DIOR” across the front with unknown stones in the lettering. He reached out to the guest for her to come retrieve the ring. She replied she was coming but did not follow through. She began to send texts that didn’t make sense to him, threatening legal action for larceny, despite his attempts to return the ring. He informed her he will leave the ring at the Belmont Police station. The ring will be placed in found property with a copy of this report.

2:05 p.m.: A confused elderly female walked into a rehab facility on Trapelo Road. She was not a patient of theirs and seemed very confused. She told Belmont Police she was supposed to meet her son there and was dropped off by someone where she lives at Regis College. She kept asking for her husband, Michael. An address was located for the woman in Newton at Evans Park Elder facility. She was supposed to go to the Beth Israel doctor’s office two doors down. The staff at the facility said they will no longer leave her alone on outings and will inform the family about her declining memory.

4:06 p.m.: Animal bite reported on Thayer Street. A FedEx employee who only spoke Portuguese used a translator app to inform officers he was delivering packages when he saw an unleashed German shepherd cautiously walk up to him. The dog walked past him but suddenly turned around and bit him two times. He had two bite marks on the back of his legs that punctured and broken the skin. He declined medical attention. A Ring camera of a Thayer Street resident captured the incident. The owner of the dog said he has never bitten anyone before but has always had an issue with mailmen. Animal Control will be notified.

Friday, Dec. 20

10:52 p.m.: The owner of a Belmont business reported a check altered and attempted to be cashed by someone named Adelicia DaSilva for $21,000 but was denied by Citizens Bank. The check was originally made out to Verizon for $274.76. Verizon never received the check. The business owner said he mailed bills on Dec. 4 at a mailbox in Cushing Square. He is working with Citizens Bank on this issue. His accounts have been frozen and new ones opened.

10:56 a.m.: A Belmont employee reported fraud. She received a call from the town stating they received information from unemployment. She never filed for unemployment. She has received multiple emails advising her she filed for unemployment. She was able to get in touch with unemployment and let them know this was fraudulent. She also spoke to someone from Fidelity that said she tried to open an account there with her social security number, but it was blocked due to a fraud alert she put in place on Experian, Transunion and Equifax. Numerous other places such as Home Depot, Capital One and American Express have contacted her to let her know an attempt to open an account was made but that due to her credit being frozen, the account was not opened. She will call her back to inform them of the fraud alerts and is waiting for a call back from social security. She was advised to run a credit report and change passwords on her accounts.

Saturday, Dec. 21

11:15 a.m.: Collision between a 2021 Landrover and a 2012 Toyota. The operator of the Landrover crossed over the double-sided yellow line to answer a phone call when he crashed into the Toyota. Both vehicles were towed. The operator of the Landrover was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.

12:05 pm.: A Belmont resident reported fraud. His bank notified him that he owed $310 to Nashville Electric Service for a bill dating back to March 2022. He never heard of the company. The account was opened using his name, date of birth and social security number with an unknown Tennessee address. His credit rating was affected in a negative manner due to this. He was advised to call the Social Security Administration to notify them his social security number was compromised.

6:18 p.m.: Collision at intersection of Bartlett Avenue and Trapelo Road between a 2024 Subaru operated by a Waltham woman and a 2020 Jeep operated by a Belmont woman. The Subaru struck the driver’s side of the Jeep. The operator of the Jeep was issued a citation for failure to stop/yield.

Sunday, Dec. 22

2:50 p.m.: A male was lying in the middle of the road and yelling at cars in the area of Common Street and Trapelo Road. He was drawing with a marker on a Belmont monument stone belonging to Brown and Hickey Funeral Home. The suspect was delusional. He was transported to Cambridge Hospital.

Monday, Dec. 23

12:09 p.m.: Collision at intersection of Trapelo Road and Pleasant Street between a 2025 Tesla operated by a Belmont woman and a 2023 Subaru operated by a Belmont man. The Subaru struck the Tesla as it was turning. The operator of the Subaru was issued a citation for failure to yield.

Tuesday, Dec. 24

4:37 p.m.: A white female customer, blonde, 50 to 60 years old, wearing glasses and a black coat at CVS on Trapelo Road was making threats and throwing items at several pharmacists. A pharmacist said she entered the store and threw her bag onto the pharmacy counter, asking for a prescription she was picking up for someone else. She said if the prescriptions cost money, she does not want them. She was extremely aggressive towards the staff, pacing back and forth, screaming and slamming both hands onto the counter, demanding the prescription. Six prescriptions were placed onto the counter behind the plastic barrier. She then reached over and grabbed the six prescriptions and placed them in her bag. The pharmacy manager was able to grab the bag from her before she took off. Several employees told her to calm down or they would escort her out of the store and call police. She left without issue.

Friday, Dec. 27

1:15 p.m.: Collision at intersection of Concord Avenue and Leonard Street between a 2019 Toyota operated by a Hyde Park man and a 2008 Honda operated by a Waltham man. The operator of the Honda was attempting to turn left when he crashed into the Toyota. He was issued a citation for failure to stop/yield.

11:45 a.m.: A Beaver Brook Step program employee reported a suspicious package at a residence for individuals with varying levels of intellectual disabilities. The package was a small glassine zip-locked bag containing a clear rock-like substance inside. The bag was found in a second floor bathroom of the residence. Belmont Police tested the substance using a TruNarc Spectrometer and it tested positive for methamphetamine.

3:30 p.m.: A Walnut Street resident reported harassment by a woman in a black Jeep who was parked past the “no parking” sign. A resident told the woman that parking on the corner makes it hard to get down the street. The woman started yelling at her and followed her to her home yelling, “I know where you live now.” A license plate number was given. The Belmont Police were unable to locate a phone number for the person the car was registered to.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

9:52 a.m.: A Boston resident reported he was scammed out of $500 online. He was corresponding with an individual who direct messaged him on Instagram. They were messaging each other a few days before Christmas. He transferred $500 for the cost of materials and labor to make a shirt using PayPal. The individual provided him with an email address and phone number and Instagram handle. He believed he was a legitimate designer because of the work he observed online and his number of followers for “Danny Lucas” on Instagram. He sent the funds for a custom t-shirt to be fabricated and printed. He was told he would receive $600 to cover the cost of the shipping and price of the shirt which was $40. He froze his debit card and will be notifying his bank about the incident.

Thursday, Jan. 2

12:10 p.m.: Collision at intersection of Common Street and Trapelo Road between a 2014. Chevrolet operated by a Brighton man and a 2024 Audi operated by a Cambridge man. The operator of the Audi was issued a citation for failure to keep right for oncoming vehicles.

Belmont Police responded to nine domestic and five mental health calls between Dec. 13 and Jan. 3.
