Saturday, April 5

5:20 a.m.: A confused, elderly Asian man was sitting on the side of the road in the area of White Street and Grant Avenue. He did not speak any English. Officers were able to check his identification, which was Chinese and learn his birth date, which found a possible match at a Belmont address. The man had two reports the previous year relating to him having dementia and being found away from home. Officers went to the address that matched his birthdate and talked to the man’s daughter, who said he was not home and must have left when she and her mother were asleep. Officers were able to reunite the man with his family. Officers advised his daughter to put his name and her contact information on his person in case he walked away from the house again without notice.

Sunday, April 6

8:06 a.m.: A Pilgrim Road resident reported a motor vehicle break-in. The glove compartment of a Toyota was open, and items were strewn around the car. Several Shell gas cards were stolen. Another vehicle parked in the driveway was also rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be missing. Officers are checking with neighbors who have Ring cameras to see if they caught any activity.  One neighbor’s camera showed activity at 3:32 a.m. A body can be seen walking away from the driveway. The footage will be emailed to Belmont Police.

8:44 a.m.: Two men were observed in the Powers Music School parking lot normally used by parishioners of St. Luke’s Church. Two men, 100 feet apart were walking toward the cruiser. One tall, thin man was carrying a small dog in his arms and was agitated and yelling at the other man across the lot who was more heavy set. One man went to the passenger side of the cruiser and the other man went to the driver’s side. Both were yelling, making it difficult to decipher what they were saying. The officer asked them to speak one at a time. One man said, “That man has no right to ask me why I’m parking in the parking lot. I work at Powers Music School and every Sunday I teach students at the school.” He then said the reason he was being questioned is because he is black, and he is being harassed. The other man said he works for St. Luke’s and every Sunday he checks the parking lot to be sure there are no cars that should not be there. He asked the man why he was in the parking lot and told him he shouldn’t be parking there. The man immediately became confrontational with him and began yelling and calling him a racist. Both men were advised a report would be on file. The Powers Music teacher was advised he could file a complaint if he feels he is being harassed. He then referred to the St. Luke’s employee as a “white middle-aged angel.” The two males were then separated and went on their way.
