SfrPublic 8/05/13: A Visit to the Lab of Laszlo Barabasi

Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, PhD, Distinguished University Professor and Director of the Center for Complex Network Research at Northeastern University. More background on scienceforthepublic.org website. Professor Barabasi is famous for the discovery of scale-free complex networks and for the impact this discovery has had on the understanding of many relationships in nature and technology. He discusses the application of scale-free networks to the understanding of disease (Human Disease Network, aka diseasome). He also discusses the challenge of introducing new ideas (as this once was), and his efforts to make scale-free network phenomena accessible to the general public (two best-sellers, Linked (2002) and more recently Bursts are very informative and interesting. He also talks about his technical books and a new online textbook project that is very innovative.
