Belmont Police Log

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. 

Friday, Feb. 21

11:30 a.m.: Watertown Savings Bank reported that at 12:27 p.m. on Feb. 9, a male party using a fake driver’s license entered the bank located at 30 Church St. and made two withdrawals from a money market account. One was a cash withdrawal for $9,200. The other was for $24,000 in the form of three bank checks.

The suspect then went to an Arlington location of Watertown Savings Bank and at 2:25 p.m. cashed a bank check in the amount of $8,000.

He then went to Watertown Savings in Lexington at 3 p.m. and cashed another check for $8,000.

Then, he proceeded to Watertown Savings Bank headquarters in Watertown at 3:30 p.m. and attempted to cash a third check for $8,000. The transaction was declined because the bank representative knew the man the check was payable to and questioned the suspect. The suspect immediately took the check back and left the branch.

The bank representative contacted the man who the check was payable to, and he said he did not conduct or authorize any of the transactions

The total loss to date for the customer is $25,200.

Surveillance footage of the suspect at each branch has been placed in the evidence locker as well as a copy of the male suspect’s fake driver’s license and the valid driver’s license of the bank customer. This is still under investigation.

1 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported receiving a phone call on Feb. 20 from someone claiming to be from CVS who had a strong Indian accent. He talked to the unknown caller for a few minutes and gave him his Medicare number. He became suspicious when the unknown man started asking about his medical history. He did not give any other information and hung up the phone. The caller attempted to reach him three more times, but he did not answer the phone. He contacted Medicare who said they will issue him a new number.

Saturday, Feb. 22

12:15 p.m.: A corporate security employee with Eversource said that at 10:30 a.m., he received a call about concerning social media posts in regard to the CEO of Eversource. The posts complained about the recent increase in energy prices. A Facebook page called, “New Bedford Guide,” made a post about the recent energy prices and there were multiple threads about the Eversource CEO. One individual commented, “Does anyone have the address of the CEO?” Another man commented referenced Luigi Mangione. A separate post made by someone with the Facebook handle “LongLive Josh Rosado,” had a picture of the Eversource CEO and tagged Luigi Mangione. Belmont Police contacted the “New Bedford Guide” Facebook page and requested to have the comments removed due to inflammatory content.

Sunday, Feb. 23

12:53 p.m.: A hit and run reported by a Belmont resident. Her vehicle was struck by a black car (make/model unknown) causing damage to the left front quarter panel of the resident’s car. She was advised to report if she sees the offending vehicle again in the area.

Monday, Feb. 24

12:35 p.m.: Suspicious activity reported by a Belmont resident. There were footprints in the snow that she believed to be her ex-tenant who she has a restraining order against. The footprints led to the back yard and then out to the front again. They were not her footprints or footprints of anyone else living at the property. She was advised to provide the Belmont Police with a copy of the restraining order and if the ex-tenant comes to the house, to call 911.

Tuesday, Feb. 25

2:37 p.m.: Illegal dumping on Olmstead Drive. The manager of Waverley Woods said several items were left by two different individuals in a dumpster. She provided a video of two males driving up to the dumpster with the vehicle’s license plate. There were also boxes with an address label. Belmont Police contacted the individual on the address label and advised him to remove all the boxes left inside the dumpster. He agreed to do so. Belmont Police was not able to reach the individual who owns the vehicle that drove up to the dumpster.

1:49 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported an Amazon package delivered t her front door on Feb. 23 at 6 a.m. The picture Amazon provided as proof of delivery shows another package already there, not the package that she was expecting that contained sunglasses valued at $349.56. She gave Amazon specific instructions to deliver the package to the back porch to avoid it from being stolen. The delivery said it was made to the front steps.

Wednesday, Feb. 26

9:41 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported receiving a Verizon bill for $100.32 for the purchase of a new phone that he did not purchase. An investigation was opened through the Verizon’s fraud department. On Feb. 20, the man received a second bill for $2,466.75 for charges related to the phone he di dnot purchase. Verizon is not holding him responsible for the charges and the account has been red flagged. He has been monitoring his credit, and it has not been affected.

3 p.m.: Auto Engineering Body Work in Belmont reported a stolen vehicle. The business owner said three vehicles were entered and one was stolen. All of the vehicles were unlocked, and the keys were inside. The keys to the three vehicles cannot be located. The owners of the vehicles have been contacted. Video surveillance will be provided.

3:22 p.m.: The Belmont Lions Club reported an accident between a 2014 Toyota operated by a Belmont resident and a 2021 Toyota operated by a Newton resident. The 2014 Toyota was travelling on Concord Avenue towards Royal Road. As the driver passed the MBTA Commuter Rail bridge on her right, the 2021 Toyota struck the front passenger side of her vehicle as it attempted to merge into traffic and make a right turn. The operator of the 2021 Toyota admitted he was traveling at a high rate of speed and accidentally struck the 2014 Toyota. The driver of the 2021 Toyota was issued a citation for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

5:54 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported missing medications. The homeowner has been at the hospital. When he returned home, his wife hid the medications prescribed to him by another doctor from another state for sleep apnea. He cannot sleep without them. The wife said she flushed the medications down the toilet because she was concerned about the side effects and did not trust the doctor that prescribed them. Officers advised the couple to discuss the situation with the husband’s doctor. The wife then said she did not flush the medications down the toilet but hid them. She retrieved them and returned them to her husband. Elder Services will receive a report.

Thursday, Feb. 27

5:14 p.m.: A Belmont landlord complained that her tenant moved her Blink camera. A video on her phone showed the incident. There was no visible damage to the camera mounted to the wall.

7:52 p.m.: A doorbell camera revealed a female was attempting to gain entry to the front door of a Belmont home. The resident provided footage from her Blink doorbell camera showing a Caucasian woman with blonde hair wearing a leopard skin jacket come to her front door, open the screen door, try to turn the handle of the main door and find it locked. She looks at the front of the house, then checks her phone. She is then seen walking away. A copy of the video has been placed in an evidence locker.

Belmont Police responded to one domestic and one mental health call between Feb. 21 and Feb. 28.
