Belmont Police Log, July 29 to Aug. 5: Ring cameras show white man trying to open doors of two homes
The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Monday, July 29
1:57 p.m.: Temple Street resident reported fraud. Her Bank of America credit card had fraudulent charges from website, Justask.com. While she was shopping on Timu.com, she received a pop-up on her cell phone from Justask.com stating they detected a virus. She knew it was a scam and did not reply. However, when she received her credit card bill, she noticed several fraudulent charges on July 26 for $190, and two on July 27 for $5.66 and $125, and on July 28, one for 76.99. She has filed a dispute of the charges with her credit card company and also contacted Bank of America to change passwords.
Tuesday, July 30
3:11 p.m.: A Bartlett Avenue resident reported suspicious activity. He was walking in the area of Cushing Square and believed an individual was following him. When he returned home, he saw the individual walking by his house. There was also a suspicious real estate agent at his grandparent’s house to appraise the home. He believes the real estate agent is trying to take advantage of them.
6 p.m.: Criminal complaints against two Watertown men for assault.
Wednesday, July 31
10:35 a.m.: An Arlington woman reported her 2021 Volkswagen broken into. On July 28, while parked at Rock Meadow on Mill Street, her credit cards and Massachusetts driver’s license and miscellaneous change and cash were taken from her vehicle. Her pocketbook, which had her credit cards and license, was in her trunk. There were no signs of forced entry. She was notified via text from her credit card company about the suspicious charges. She informed them she did not make any of the purchases and canceled her card. She ordered a new license and canceled all her other credit cards.
11:25 a.m.: Collision in the area of Common Street and Palfrey Road between a 2014 Lexus operated by a Belmont woman and a 2024 Audi operated by a Rhode Island man. The operator of the Lexus said her car was shaking as she was driving on Common Street and then the motor stopped. She sideswiped a parked vehicle parked by Palfrey Road. The front passenger wheel was bent off the axle of the Lexus. The Audi was unoccupied. Officers made contact with the owner to inform them of the accident. The operator of the Lexus was issued a citation for lane violation.
Sunday, Aug. 4
5:07 p.m.: A Slade Street resident reported fraud. Approximately two weeks ago, she began receiving notifications that some of her accounts were hacked. On July 19, she was notified a Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance policy for $35,000 was taken out in her name. She also stated on July 22, she had two unauthorized charges on her debit card for a gas station in Hadley for $38.32 and $32.17. She is working on contacting the credit bureaus. She notified all her banks and they have canceled her cards and will be sending her new ones.
Monday, Aug. 5
12:29 a.m.: Criminal complaint against a Waltham man for attempting to commit a crime.
9:27 a.m.: A Burnham Street resident reported suspicious activity. She noticed an alert on her Ring camera at 12:10 a.m. A white male was walking into her yard, wearing a light shirt and backpack. He went to both her back porch doors and looked in the windows but never entered the porch. She gave officers a copy of the video.
12:27 p.m.: A Cutter Street resident reported seeing a suspicious person, white male, wearing a light shirt and a backpack, on their doorbell camera. He walked on her front porch and appeared to be looking in the front windows of her house. She shared a copy of the video with the Belmont Police.
Between July 29 and Aug. 4, Belmont Police responded to four domestic calls and two mental health calls.
