Belmont Police Log, Oct. 18-24: Reports of lewd acts in public, neighbors disputing and more
The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Friday, Oct. 18
4:03 p.m.: Harassment reported by Belmont resident. He has been receiving threatening texts from a neighbor who is often intoxicated.
5:10 p.m.: A Belmont resident received a letter from the U.S. Small Business Administration stating he had delinquent loans. He hasn’t taken out any recent loans and tried to call the phone number on the letter (800-736-6048). The person who answered immediately hung up. His last name on the letter was spelled incorrectly. He was advised to monitor his financials and visit the Small Business Administration website to find out more information.
10 p.m.: Collision in Belmont High School parking lot between a 2013 Volvo operated by a Woburn resident and a 2020 Mazda owned by a Brookline woman. The Volvo crashed into the Mazda while backing out of a parking space. The Volvo was towed from the scene.
Saturday, Oct. 19
7:34 a.m.: A Belmont resident who previously reported being harassed by his neighbor, said his name was spray painted in the middle of the road with an arrow pointing to the driveway of his residence. He has been having an ongoing dispute with his neighbor about the parking situation in the driveway and has brought it to the attention of the property’s landlord. Belmont Police advised the resident of his options of petitioning for a Harassment Prevention Order through Cambridge District Court and also addressing civil matters in court with the landlord. The Department of Public Works will remove the spray paint from the roadway.
4:51 p.m.: Break-in reported on Cushing Avenue. A homeowner said she heard someone walking around her home approximately 20 minutes prior to calling the police. She saw a thin Hispanic male, approximately 45 years old, six feet tall with short brown hair and brown eyes, in the hallway. He was wearing worker’s clothing, possibly jeans. He looked lost and did not seem aggressive. He asked for someone named Kim. She escorted him to the front door without incident. He then started walking towards the reservoir. Nothing was taken from the home and he did not seem to have any weapons in his hands. She is unsure how he gained entrance into the home. The rear door was locked. She noticed a bedroom window and screen wide open and a bucket of ice melt underneath the window that could have been used as a step. A description of the male was sent to surrounding communities.
5:02 p.m.: A missing person reported by a representative from McLean’s Hospital. The patient was on a group walk when he may have wandered away. He is white, 5-feet-11-inches, 140 pounds. The police attempted to contact a woman who is described as his partner but had negative results.
9:40 p.m.: A Belmont resident operating a gray Mercedes was issued a citation for unlicensed operation of a vehicle, marked lanes and U-turn violation.
Sunday, Oct. 20
1 a.m.: Patrol officer stopped a vehicle with a very loud exhaust attempting to accelerate through the turn. The operator received a citation for improper operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Monday, Oct. 21
6:37 a.m.: Collision in the area of 832 Belmont St. between a 2008 Jeep Wrangler operated by a Belmont resident and a 2006 Ford Focus operated by a Watertown man. The operator of the Jeep was pulling out of his driveway and did not see the Ford as it approached to avoid a collision. The operator of the Jeep was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way.
7:54 a.m.: Threats reported by security manager at McLean Hospital. Several threatening phone calls were being made to the main number by a patient who has been missing since Oct 19. Several calls were made to the main number. The missing patient was asking for Unit AB2 South. He threatened to shoot the hospital up and said he was angry that security restrained him when he was a patient there.
8:33 a.m.: Illegal dumping reported by a property owner on Stanley Road who is building a home to be sold. Sometime over the weekend, a large amount of bathroom construction debris was illegally left in the dumpster. The boxes and packaging labels were deliberately ripped up. One partially torn label was rescued. IT appears to be an order from two bathroom vendors that were shopped to a Brighton Street resident. Officers contacted the resident who said she knew who illegally dumped the materials and would have them removed.
1:05 p.m.: Suspicious person reported on Flett Road near Belmont Pet Shop who was speaking strangely and taking photos of someone in their vehicle, making them feel uncomfortable. Another woman said he followed her and her child in a stroller down the street shouting, “You’re a bad mother. Get your kid out of the street.” The suspect also made threats to the auto body shop located next to Belmont Pet Shop and LC’s Variety. The suspect was later recording a daycare group walking near the intersection of White and Sycamore Streets because he said one of the teachers is transgender and he felt he was suited to protect the children better than they would. He was later seen walking with a balloon tied to the top of his shirt and went into the Bank of America building on Trapelo Road, threatening employees because it was taking too long to verify his identity. The man was later arrested by Belmont Police. The man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
7:34 p.m.: A young girl was riding her bicycle home when she saw a male urinating by the back of his vehicle parked in a driveway on Lewis Road. She is unsure if he saw her. The neighbor had a Doordash delivery around the same time and was able to provide the phone number for the driver. The mother of the young girl called the number. A man answered and said he did not speak English. The woman told him in Spanish that he should not be urinating in public and the incident would be reported to the police and Doordash.
Tuesday, Oct. 22
8:56 a.m.: Neighbors on Amherst Road were disputing with each other about a stucco property line wall currently being constructed. One neighbor feels it is encroaching on their property too much. The other neighbor said the wall is necessary because the trees that were there previously were rotting. The neighbor offered to replace the trees with new ones, but the other neighbor said they would fight it in civil court. The Office of Community Development sent a representative who concluded the wall needed to be properly finished and encouraged the neighbor to allow the construction to be completed. The other neighbor was arguing with the contractor finishing the stucco wall. They thought they heard him say he had a gun. There is no active license to carry by the resident. They were advised to contact the Belmont Police if further assistance is needed.
10:01 a.m.: A lewd act reported in the area of Trapelo Road and Mill Street. A woman was walking in the area when she observed a white male, tall with a slender build, wearing a blue t-shirt and tan pants, masturbating. Belmont Police checked the area and were unable to locate anyone matching the description. Waltham Police were also notified.
Wednesday, Oct. 23
11:32 a.m.: Road rage incident on Goden Street between a Woburn resident operating a 2022 Subaru and an Arlington resident operating a 2020 motorcycle. The operator of the Subaru told Belmont Police the operator of the motorcycle was following her closely from Leonard Street onto Concord Avenue, making her nervous. The motorcycle then pulled up beside her and knocked into her side mirror, breaking the outer cover and continuing on Goden Street without stopping. She was able to read the motorcycle’s license plate. Belmont Police sent a cruiser to the operator’s residence in Arlington but were unable to make contact with him.
3 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported receiving a letter from Marcus: by Goldman Sachs explaining someone used his identification to open a deposit account with Marcus: by Goldman Sachs. He does not have any accounts with Marcus: by Goldman Sachs. He has notified his bank institutions and credit bureaus as well as Marcus: by Goldman Sachs about the incident.
4:25 p.m.: Vandalism reported by a Somerville resident. His Jeep Wrangler was parked in the parking lot of Belmont Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. When he returned to his vehicle, long white paint streaks were found across the right side of the car. The surveillance cameras at Town Hall will be investigated.
Thursday, Oct. 24
6:43 a.m.: Collision with injuries in the area of 307 Pleasant St. between a 2020 Toyota operated by a Melrose resident and a 2015 Toyota operated by an Arlington resident. The operator of the 2020 Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle by Belmont Fire. She was complaining of neck pain and was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital. The operator of the 2015 Toyota said he was in the left lane on Pleasant Street when the 2020 Toyota turned into him from the right lane. The operator of the 2020 Toyota was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.
8:23 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported his daughter’s musical instrument went missing at the Belmont Middle School. Her viola was inside her backpack and left with all the other children’s belongings. When it was time to leave, she realized the viola was missing. The school has been notified as well as the company that provides the instrument to the school. It’s 14 inches long and has a tag on it with the letters, “DFM,” the company name.
Arrest
A Belmont male was arrested on Oct 21 at approximately 1:05 p.m. for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
Belmont Police responded to one domestic and six mental health calls between Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.
