Belmont Police Log, Feb. 27 to March 5: Porsche stolen from body shop on Pleasant Street, contractor dispute, identity theft and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. 

Thursday, Feb. 27

1:19 p.m.: A 2021 BMW parked in front of 345 Trapelo Road was side-swiped. Security camera footage in the area will be reviewed.

Friday, Feb. 28

4:15 p.m.: An auto body shop on Pleasant Street reported a black Porsche Cayenne was stolen. Another vehicle was stolen on Feb. 26.  The keys were inside the vehicle. Three other sets of car keys are missing (two Porsche’s and one Audi). The keys to the vehicles are being reset and the vehicles are blocked in. The stolen Porsche has been entered into DCJIS as stolen.

6:55 p.m.: Collision at the intersection of Brighton and Pleasant Streets between a 2024 Nissan operated by a Cambridge woman and 2006 Mini Cooper operated by a Concord man. The Cambridge woman was issued a citation for marked lane violation.

Sunday, March 2

10:20 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported two necklaces, four pairs of earrings and beads taken from her home. She suspects her ex-roommate took the jewelry and the beads may have been taken during an open house. The missing jewelry is worth approximately $4,850. The value of the beads is unknown. She is in the midst of moving and was advised to contact the Belmont Police if she notices anything else missing or finds what she has reported taken.

9:40 p.m.: A 2017 Mazda operated by a Belmont man crashed into a fire hydrant at the intersection of Cushing avenue and pine Street. The fire hydrant needed to be replaced by the Belmont Water Department. The vehicle was towed. The Belmont man was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.

Tuesday, March 4

3:35 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported a contractor dispute. In September 2024, he hired a private contractor to work on his home. They came to a verbal agreement that he would paint the house, renovate the bathroom and finish the attic in one month. The materials and completed work was estimated to cost $18,000 to $20,000. The contractor increased the price of the work and materials to $46,000. He also noticed several discrepancies on the invoices and asked the contractor to correct them, but received no response. He told the contractor he was unable to pay him and he offered to loan him $15,000 to complete the work. He never received the loan, but a lien was placed on his house by the contractor because the loan agreement listed his house as collateral if the loan was not paid off. Due to the uncompleted work, he lost three months of rent. He was advised to consult a lawyer.

3:45 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported harassment. She believes a neighbor has been threatening to call the town to report that she is doing something wrong or illegal. She received an email from a town employee regarding the motor vehicles in her driveway. Since August 2024, Belmont Police received 24 calls requesting an officer for neighbor dispute or harassment.

4:31 p.m.: A Belmont resident discovered money stolen from his bank account. He noticed, when he was preparing documents to file his taxes, there were discrepancies in some of his bank accounts. He notified Eastern Bank and went into the branch to inquire. He had a home equity loan for $400,000 that was paid off and closed Feb. 9, 2024. There were four transfers from the home equity line of credit account to his checking account totaling $285,700. The account had a New Jersey Address. The bank said the information was changed without his authorization. The bank is investigating. His remaining accounts have been closed. He was advised to monitor his accounts and take steps to protect his identity.

Wednesday, March 5

4:39 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported his daughter and a friend met a boy at Town Field to purchase a marijuana vape pen. The boy is approximately 17, Hispanic, from Watertown and drove a small gray car. He deals marijuana and nicotine to teenagers his daughter’s age.

Belmont Police responded to one mental health and four domestic calls between Feb. 28 and March 7.
