Belmont Police Log, Feb. 1-6: High School students smoking marijuana in CVS bathroom, pedestrian struck on Trapelo Road, check fraud, motor vehicle break-in and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Saturday, Feb. 1

10:41 a.m.: Head-on collision on Trapelo Road between a 2016 Toyota operated by a Medford woman and a 2020 RAM truck operated by a Belmont man. The Medford woman had a large gash on her forehead. She said she didn’t remember what happened to cause the accident. A witness behind the Medford woman said the vehicle started slowly drifting over the center line before colliding head-on with the truck. The Medford woman was issued a citation for marked lanes violation. She was transported to the hospital. It is unclear if it was a medical issue that contributed to the accident.

12:34 p.m.: A Weber Road resident was cooking rice on the stovetop when it overflowed and caught on fire. A Belmont Police officer knocked down the fire with a fire extinguisher. Belmont Fire unplugged the stove and advised the residents to contact maintenance before using the stove.

6:15 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported receiving an alert from his Ring doorbell showing someone at his residence. He did not know who the individual was or what they were doing. The video shows a female walk up to the front of the residence and appear to take a photo on an iPad. She then walks around the residence and appears to look around the backyard. She then returns to her car and leaves. The resident did not know who this individual was and why they were looking around his property.

9:15 p.m.: CVS on Leonard Street reported suspicious activity. Two high school aged males entered the CVS restroom and were smoking marijuana for about 10-15 minutes. The manager knocked on the door and asked if they were alright. They told him they would be out in a little bit. When they exited the restroom, the manager smelled marijuana. He confronted them about what they were doing, and they left the store with some other high school seniors. He is going to look into getting locks on the doors and restricting restroom access.

Sunday, Feb. 2

8:30 a.m.: Tatte Bakery on Trapelo Road reported an unwanted person who has a No Trespass Order. Belmont Police informed the man who was wearing a blue hoodie and carrying a basketball that he has an active No Trespass Order from Tatte dating back to Nov. 17, 2023, and not to return. He has caused disturbances many times that have been documents. He was escorted from the property and left the area. He will be charged with violation of the No. Trespass Order.

Monday, Feb. 3

9:55 p.m.: Theft of an iPad on Glenn Road. The resident recently ordered an iPad through A T & T. He received the notification it was delivered at 7:23 p.m. He immediately went outside to retrieve it, and it was gone. He filed a claim with A T & T and was told another iPad would be shipped to him. The stolen iPad is valued at $499.99.

Tuesday, Feb. 4

9:20 a.m.: A Gordon Terrace resident reported vehicle broken into. Everything in the glove box was taken out and left on the seats. It does not appear that anything is missing. The surveillance video shows a small black SUV into the parking lot at 3:23 a.m. A person wearing all black with white shoes comes out of the vehicle and goes around checking all the doors of vehicles. The person walked around checking several vehicles.

1:42 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported that on Dec. 18 he mailed a check for $5,085.08 to Citi Card. From a mailbox on Trapelo Road and Pine Street. The check was washed and cashed for $20,000 on Dec. 30. He realized today when he received his paper bank statement from Bank of America. He contacted the bank, and his account has been frozen. Bank of America is investigating and requested a police report. He also notified Citi Card who agreed to waive any late fees.

9:38 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported he received a $25 overnight parking ticket. He dropped a check in the mailbox at the intersection of Trapelo Road and Bartlett Avenue. His bank. Ally Bank notified him his check was posted to the dark web. He was instructed to close his checking account and create a new one. There was no monetary loss.

Wednesday, Feb. 5

5:54 a.m.: Two-car collision at the intersection of Common Street and Trapelo Road between a 2016 Kia operated by a Lowell man and a 2021 RAM operated by an Orange man. The Orange man was issued a citation for failure to yield.

10:41 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported a missing trash bin. The Department of Public Works said they would replace it but require a police report.

11 a.m.: A construction company reported a trash bin missing from a home where work was being done. The Department of Public Works said they would replace it but require a police report.

4:15 p.m.: A Belmont High Student reported a hit and run. Her 2007 Honda was parked on Oak Street. When she returned there was damage to the rear bumper. She was advised to contact her insurance company.

6:16 p.m.: A hit and run at the intersection of Brighton and Pleasant Streets. A Belmont resident operating a blue Honda was stopped in traffic at a red light at the intersection of Brighton and Pleasant Streets, waiting to take a left onto Pleasant Street when an unknown vehicle sideswiped the right side of her vehicle and took a right turn onto Pleasant Street, leaving the area. She believes it may have been a gray Subaru Outback. Belmont Communications put out a description of the offending vehicle to surrounding cities and towns, having possible left side damage.

Thursday, Feb. 6

8:46 a.m.: A Watertown female pedestrian was struck on Trapelo Road. She was crossing the roadway after exiting the Star Market parking lot holding a bag of groceries when she was struck in the roadway. She had visible small cuts on her hands and complained of severe shoulder pain. Belmont Rescue evaluated her. She was transported to the hospital. A Watertown woman operating a 2025 Chevrolet said she did not see the pedestrian. She was issued a citation for failing to use care while turning.

Belmont Police responded to three mental health calls between Feb. 1 and Feb. 7.
