Belmont Police Log, Aug. 5-Aug. 11: Man threatens to kill another man over a road rage incident, woman confronted by man with knife who appeared to be homeless and more
The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Monday, Aug. 5
12:39 p.m.: Collision in the area of Belmont and School Street between a 2011 Subaru operated by a Watertown woman and a 2023 box truck operated by a Framingham man. The box truck backed into the Subaru, causing heavy front-end damage. The box truck did not have any visible damage. The operator of the box truck received a citation for improper operation.
3:57 p.m.: A Maple Terrace resident reported a stolen license plate. On July 10, he noticed his rear license plate was missing. He believed it fell off and went to get a new license plate from the Registry of Motor Vehicles. He received a bill from EZ pass, two transactions in New Hampshire on June 23 and June 29 for $6. A photo of the vehicle with his plate showed a white Acura. His car is a 2005 GMC. His plate was entered into CJIS as stolen. He will be contacting the RMV and EZ pass to get the bill cleared up.
Thursday, Aug. 8
10 a.m.: A Belmont man reported an assault. He was stopped at the red light on Trapelo Road facing Eastbound at Lexington Street. He saw a male on a scooter or moped wearing all black and a face mask, possibly an orange backpack. He rolled down his driver’s side window warning the operator to be careful because he went through a red light. The operator of the scooter swore at him. He then made an illegal Uturn and followed him to the area of White Street. He kept swearing and threatening to murder the driver. He pulled into the gas station on Trapelo Road, hoping the other driver would drive off. However, he pulled into the gas station and again threatened to murder him after he asked why he is following him. He deliberately pulled off and smashed the driver’s side mirror and then sped at a high rate of speed down Hull Street. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the man. The operator got a photo of the person on the scooter and gave it to officers.
3:59 p.m.: Collision in area of Bartlett Avenue and Maple Street between a 2014 Honda operated by a Belmont woman, a 2008 Honda operated by a Belmont woman. The operator of the 2014 Honda was travelling Northbound through the intersection heading towards Jonathan, then when the operator of the 2008 Honda was turning onto Maple Street at the Stop sign and didn’t yield. There was moderate front-end damage to the 2014 Honda and moderate left front damage to the 2008 Honda. The operator of the 2008 Honda was issued a citation for failure to stop.
Friday, Aug. 9
9:26 a.m.: A Long Avenue resident reported fraud. She was the victim of a Paypal scam. On Aug. 8, she received notification from Paypal of a charge of $449.88 for a Springfield armory gun. There was a phone number to call if the charge is incorrect of fraudulent. She was worried if she called it would be a scam, so she Googled Paypal’s customer service line. When she called, a male with an Indian accent answered. He instructed her to download an application on her phone allowing him remote access to her phone. He then asked her to log into her bank accounts to check her balances. She refused to do so and said she doesn’t do online banking. He then asked her to open a Venmo account to verify her identity and Venmo is a parent company of Paypal. He also informed her she needed to buy a gift card for $200 from Target or CVS. She refused and provided a credit card, which was charged $271.56. Mark tried to charge an additional sum but was flagged by her credit card company. He asked for another credit card company to charge but she refused and ended the call. She notified her bank and placed a fraud claim with Venmoe. She was recommended to contact the three credit agencies and place an alert on her personal information.
10:11 a.m.: A Texas woman reported an incident that occurred the day before. On Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m., she was walking in front of the VFW on Trapelo Road. A man walking the opposite way approached her and deliberately blocked her path. When she looked up and made eye contact, he opened a black trench coat he was wearing and showed her a silver knife. He then smiled and said, “I stab you.” He then chuckled for a moment and said, “Just kidding.” He then walked away, continuing Westbound on Trapelo Road. She continued walking Eastbound and returned to her son’s home. She said he appeared homeless, visibly dirty, wearing all black with a long trench coat, unshaven, blue-eyed with dirty, knotted, reddish brown hair. She was advised if an incident like this happens again to call 911. Officers are trying to find cameras that may have captured the incident.
10:21 a.m.: A Marlboro Street resident reported theft of a camera. The property is being developed by Coral Developers Corporation. Security cameras attached to two areas of the building were stolen last night. This is the third time cameras at this site were taken. Prior incidences were reported. A suspect disconnected the camera without revealing his/her identity and left the property. These cameras had tracking capability. Officers tracked them to an office in Quincy. A video of the actual theft will be emailed to the officer. He was also advised to contact the department if anything new develops.
7:36 p.m.: A Townsend Road resident reported the theft of a package. At approximately 4:15 p.m., she noticed a black vehicle in front of her home with the driver’s side door open. A person wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, covering her face, walked up the steps to her home, then walked back to the vehicle and drove away. It was a black four-door sedan with a Pennsylvania license plate. A Short time later, she received a notification that FedEx delivered a package. She then realized it was missing. The package contained an iPhone 15 shipped from A T & T. A claim has been filed with FedEx and will also be filed with A T & T. The value of the phone is $1,000.
Sunday, Aug. 11
5:13 a.m.: A Stop sign in the area of Mill Street and Concord Avenue was knocked over. It was on the ground near the island the metal base of the sign was damaged. The Highway Department was notified and was able to replace the sign.
Between Aug. 5 to Aug. 10, Belmont Police responded to six domestic violence calls, two resulting in an arrest with charges of assault and battery on a family member and one charge of assault and battery on a pregnant person. There were also two mental health calls.
