Chet MESSER, Chair


Chester R. Messer retired as President of KeySpan Energy Delivery, New England (formerly Boston Gas and its subsidiaries) in 2002. During his business career, he served as a director of many industry associations including the Southern Gas Association/Cable Television Network.

His involvement in the wider community included the General Chairman of the 2001 United Way of Mass. Bay Fund Raising Campaign, and he continues serve on the Salvation Army State Board of Advisors, as an Overseer of WGBH; and a member of the golf committee at the Lexington Golf Club.

The Salvation Army bestowed the prestigious "Others" award on Mr. Messer for his foresight in the establishment of "Good Neighbor Energy Fund” in early 1980’s, which has raised more than $18 million since it began to help individuals and families who do not qualify for public assistance programs with payment of heating bills during a temporary financial crisis.

Locally, he is a past president of the Belmont Boosters and a one of the group of founders of the Belmont Youth Basketball Association. Mr. Messer and his wife live in Belmont and they have two married children and six grandchildren. He is a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Belmont and serves as the Chair of the Trustees. He was recently appointed to the Town Cable TV Advisory Committee.

He continues to serve as a volunteer videographer for the Belmont Media Center and commentator on sports productions.
